Title:     Web Designer / Graphics Intern

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt 

Reports to:     Operations Manager and Casino Marketing Manager

Department:   Marketing


JOB SUMMARY


Under direction of the Operations Manager and Casino Marketing Manager, the Web Designer / Graphics works to develop, update, maintain respective web site/pages with current information;  plans, coordinates and produces internal and external publications for the Tamarack such as newsletters, advertisements, brochures, and forms; and some of IT’s administrative duties.

The Web Designer / Graphics Intern as with all members of the Tamarack Junction Casino Team, is expected to conduct himself/herself in a manner, which demonstrates initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercises confidentiality in the appropriate areas of his/her performance. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, not necessarily in order of priority, include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provides excellent customer service to customers and business partners.
  1. Develops, updates, and maintains web sites/pages as requested by team members on a regular basis.
  1. Under direction manage all of the Tamarack’s web sites to centrally control development/updates to maintain a common theme within the sites ensuring a consistent look and feel.
  1. Liaison with outside web host vendor to make sure the Tamarack is current with updates on the host side and to analyze the monthly web site hit count to make sure the Tamarack is doing all it can to increase web visits.
  1. Work with outside vendors to maintain domain and search engine registrations for all sites.  Work with outside consultants (if applicable) to manage the contracted work.  Work with outside vendors to coordinate printing needs.
  1. Work with all Tamarack departments to coordinate publications. Reads and evaluates material submitted for publication; edits material to maintain a consistent look and feel.
  1. Assists with the preparation of advertising and promotional material to increase guest volume, working with management staff and advertising agencies.
  1. Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select style and size of type, and arrange layout based upon available space and aesthetic design concepts, applying knowledge of layout techniques and computer software.
  1. Select or recommend graphics such as drawings, diagrams, pictures, and charts to illustrate the publication.

10.  Provide technical assistance and design support to other Tamarack staff on desktop publishing programs/projects and/or other word processing software programs.

11.  Contributes content to the employee newsletter on a regular basis.

12.   Keeps up to date with current trends and technologies that are being used on the web and in desktop publishing.

13.  Performs other duties as assigned.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One year certificate from college or technical school emphasizing graphic design, computer and journalism skills; and at least two years related experience using advanced Desktop publishing, graphics, and computer programs such as Adobe PageMaker, Corel Draw, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Frontpage, Adobe PhotoShop and Image Ready and Windows. One year journalism or graphic art experience desired, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. 

COMPREHENSION/COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and vendor specifications for job quotes. Ability to research a subject to then utilize the data for articles, reports, memos or recommendations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, customers, vendors, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Nevada Drivers License or equivalent. Prior experience in the hospitality industry – preferably Casino/Gaming.  Must be 21.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Other essential skills include creativity and design knowledge, graphics and scanning program knowledge, excellent grammar, attention to detail, good organization, customer service and people skills, ability to write articulately, and to edit other people's work; detail oriented with the ability to handle confidential information. Knowledge of HTML and ASP a plus.



WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Marking Intern works on-site at the casino and interfaces with external/internal guests, Team Members, and vendors on a regular basis. The position work schedule varies and may include Saturday/Sunday, evening and on-call work depending on the needs of the operation.

This position is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The incumbent is required to walk and stand for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk, and hear.  The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
